Skid steers

Skid steer loaders are compact wheeled machines that steer by turning the wheels on each side at different speeds, letting them turn within their own length. They are used on construction sites, farms, landscaping jobs and in warehouses and yards for moving material, loading, clean-up, snow removal and running attachments through a front quick-attach plate.

When comparing skid steers, look at operating weight, rated operating capacity and tipping load, then at lift path (radial or vertical) and hinge-pin height. Overall width, height and wheelbase decide where the machine fits and how it is hauled. Engine power and auxiliary hydraulic flow and pressure matter for attachments such as augers, breakers and sweepers. Ground clearance and tyre size affect performance on rough ground.

Across the 37 models listed here, operating weight ranges from about 1,312 to 5,397 kg (2,892 to 11,898 lb). Brands covered: Bobcat, Case, Caterpillar, Gehl, John Deere, Kubota, New Holland.
