Articulated dump trucks

Articulated dump trucks are off-road haulers with a pivot joint between the cab and the dump body, and usually all-wheel drive. The articulation and drive let them carry dirt, rock and other material across soft, steep or uneven ground on construction, quarry and earthmoving sites where rigid trucks would struggle.

When comparing articulated dump trucks, start with rated payload and body capacity, then operating or empty weight. Engine power and top speed affect cycle times on longer hauls. Overall length, width and height, turning radius and ground clearance matter for site layout and transport. Dump angle and loading height show how easily it matches the excavator or loader filling it.

Across the 21 models listed here, operating weight ranges from about 22,494 to 43,800 kg (49,591 to 96,562 lb). Brands covered: Caterpillar, Develon, John Deere, Komatsu, Liebherr, Volvo.
